According to the most recent report of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), published on the occasion of the World Tourism Day, Serbia is at the top globally when it comes to recovery in this field.
From January to July this year, Serbia recorded by far the highest growth of tourist turnover, 73% higher compared to the levels from 2019 of all the countries which report about that parameter, showing that the promotion of tourism, open borders and the overall recovery of the industry following the pandemic have contributed to the growth, despite the high inflation, it is said on the website of the Ministry of Tourism.
The minister of trade, tourism and telecommunications of Serbia, Tatjana Matic, has welcomed the publication of the latest report of the WTO and said that such a conclusion was expected, considering the excellent results achieved so far.
– Despite the challenges, we are welcoming the World Tourism Day with record results and remarkable successes. The number of tourist arrivals from the beginning of the year grew 48.1% compared to the same period last year, whereas the foreign exchange inflow from tourism in the first six months grew 57.9% compared to the same period in 2021. The WTO has recognized this record growth and it is in fact a strong boost and a powerful incentive which encourages us to achieve even greater successes – Matic said.
