Spanish Wines in the Heart of the City vol. 4.0
As in the past years, this will an opportunity to remind ourselves what it is that Spanish wines can offer, and they can offer a lot: from a wide variety of grapevines, to 96 geographic origin designations which cover a variety of climate conditions, from the dry south to the green northwest. As a reminder, the week of Spanish wines also aims to enable wine fans to discover, during those 7 days, things they haven’t tried yet, whether it’s sparkling Cava, the robust Rioja and Ribera wines, the breezy wines of the Atlantic, or a very specific Sherry or a Txakoli. Local importers have made sure for the offer of Spanish wines available to Serbian wine aficionados to be able to offer something for everybody’s taste. The Foods and Wines from Spain website features a list of wine bars and restaurants where you can enjoy your favorite Spanish wines.
This year, the Spanish wine week brings a new feature. In addition to a wider audience, this year’s program will be directed at the professional sector as well. On the first day of the festival, the Economic Department of the Embassy of Spain will organize the tasting of Spanish organic wines for importers and distributors. Spain is one of the leading producers of organic wines in Europe and the world. The information which could be interesting is that the production of organic wines has increased 522% in the past 10 years, which shows the readiness of Spanish wineries to fit into the new trends and face the challenges they carry. This time, five Spanish wineries will present their best wines, namely: Tempore, Alta Alella, Ondare, Prado del Rey and Luzon. The tasting session will be managed by Marko Marjanovic, a carrier of the ICEX Spanish Wine Specialist diploma.
On September 22, the Economic Department of the Embassy of Spain is also organizing the first Spanish Wine and Food Salon. In addition to wines, the professional audience will be able to taste some of the prominent symbols of the Spanish cuisine: Iberian ham, cheeses and olive oil, but also Iberian pistachios and pistachio paste.
Those who have visited Spain know that what makes the Spanish offer unique and, many will agree, irresistible is precisely the combination of apparently simple ingredients which provide a full gastronomic experience. That is why, this year, 10 wineries (Rovellats, Matarromera, Codorniu, Marques de Riscal, Maset, Sommos, Dominio de Casalta, Freixenet, U Mes U Fan Tres and Perez Barquero) and 6 food producers (Cesar Nieto, Beher, Valle de Ricote, Matarromera, Pistacyl, Queseria la Antigua) will present themselves.
Two wine tasting sessions will be held during the Salon, where select wines of the participatory wineries will be presented and three guided food tasting sessions will be organized:
– The charcuterie workshop run by Master Chef Uros Urosevic will place special focus on the Iberian ham. Two producers which belong to the very top when it comes to the quality of their products, as shown by their numerous acknowledgments in Spanish and international contests, Beher and Cesar Nieto, will be presented.
– The workshop dedicated to cheese and olive oil, which will run by professor Dr Bojana Kalenjuk, will deal with cheese with truffles and cheese matured in the grape skin of the autochthonous Spanish variety Tempranillo by the producer Queseria la Antigua, whereas the finesses of organic and extra virgin olive oil will be presented by the producers Valle de Ricote and Matarromera.
We are asking everybody interested in visiting the Salon to apply at the email address belgrado@comercio.mineco.es.
