Prokupac, Most Important Autochthonous Grape Wine in Serbia, Gets Its Own Glass

Red wines made from Prokupac, a variety deeply rooted in the history of Serbian winemaking, have received a special international acknowledgment, putting them shoulder to shoulder with some of the most appreciated and demanded world wines. A top-performance glass made of the finest crystal, meant for Barolo and Barbaresco wines, as well as Pinot Noirs from Burgundy, such as Echézeaux, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, Nuits Saint Georges, Pommard and Vosne-Romanée, has been chosen as the perfect glass for Prokupac as well.

The glass was produced by the Austrian company Riedel, the absolute leader in the global market of wine glasses. Prokupac and the winemakers and the wine tradition of Serbia have thereby been recognized for their authenticity and quality, which can compete against the best wines of the world.

Thanks to the support of the USAID Competitive Economy Project, the first quantity of specially branded of Prokupac Riedel Performance glasses has already arrived to Serbia, and the distribution began on July 5, during the visit of Stefano Canello, the vice president of Riedel, to Belgrade and the presentation of the glass and its performances to professionals from the wine business, sommeliers and restaurant and bar owners.

In July, the first glasses will find their way to wineries and hospitality facilities which offer Prokupac. The glass has become part of the Riedel catalog which is used worldwide, which is another way to promote the Prokupac wine.

Prokupac is a wine grape variety that has experienced a true renaissance in the past decade and is now valued as one of the most promising autochthonous varieties in Europe. Impressive red wines with plenty of fruit and spice flavors, coming in several different styles and capable of resting and developing in a bottle for a long time, are made from Prokupac. This has been recognized by some of the most reputable wine experts in the world, so Prokupac has been receiving the highest grades, trophies and medals at contests for years now. Prokupac is the first autochthonous variety from Southeast Europe to get its international day. Each October 14, throughout Serbia and the world, the Day of Prokupac is marked by a range of events, wine-tasting events and festivals.
