The European Union (EU) will support 33 local infrastructure projects in the regions of Sumadija and West Serbia and South and East Serbia, which include the renovation and reconstruction of education, health and welfare institutions, sports and cultural facilities, as well as the improvement of utility services and public administration buildings, through the EU PRO Plus program.

A total of 75 projects proposals were sent in response to the public invitation which was open from December 3, 2021, to January 31, 2022, and one of the necessary conditions for applying was the existence of a building permit and a financial participation of a minimum of 15% of the value of the project. Also, local self-governments had the right to apply two projects under the condition that one or both are from the fields of health and/or welfare. Thereby, the 33 local self-governments whose projects were approved will take part in the realization with EUR 2,742,579, so the total budget of all the projects is estimated of EUR 8,272,532, says the announcement of UNOPS.

– This way, the EU, in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, will support the quality of people’s lives with more than EUR 5.5 million, and special attention will be paid to vulnerable groups of the populace, as well as recovery from the consequences of Covid-19.

Jadranka Joksimovic, the minister of European integration, said that local self-governments had applied with priority projects that would improve life in those areas.

– By supporting the realization of these projects of local infrastructure, the EU is directly contributing to a better life of the populace in Serbia through the reconstruction of public facilities, which will not only improve their functionality and the services which they provide to the populace, but also help improve energy efficiency, availability and environmental protection and urban mobility – said the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Emanuele Giaufret.

The list of the approved projects is available here on the web page of the EU PRO Plus program.
