Serbia to Take Part in Next World Expo in Osaka in 2025 – Belgrade Applies to Host Specialized 2027 Expo

Expo 2020 Dubai, at which 192 countries presented their biggest minds and innovations and which was visited by over 23 million people, closed after six months. Serbia participated under the slogan “Serbia Creates Ideas – Inspired by the Past, We Shape the Future”, hosting over 1.2 million visitors.

Dubai had been preparing for the expo for eight years and spent USD 7 billion.

– Serbia achieved impressive results: from the world premiere of the incredible scientific and technological innovation “Metahuman – A Virtual Revival of the Prehistoric Man from Lepenski Vir”, to the presentation of the first gaming village, which will be built in Belgrade, which is a very important potential for our country, considering that the industry of the production of video-games, in addition to cinematography, is the fastest growing branch of creative industries in Serbia. We also presented the Strategy for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia, top VR technologies and justified the fact that the BBC had pronounced Belgrade one of the five most creative cities in the world – says Ana Ilic, the coordinator of the Serbia Expo Dubai project.

She added that, thanks to the Metahuman project, Serbia had become a topic in the world media and said that the project had contributed to a very high number of visitors and the attractiveness of Serbia’s pavilion.

– All the fields of creative industries here have a great potential and the excellent economic data show this the best: more than a 7.5% share of the sector of creative industries in the GDP of Serbia, with an increase in exports by more than 50% and a continuous growth, which amounts to as much as 60% in the past six years alone. We have over 125,000 employees in the sector, of whom the majority are young, highly educated people – Ilic says.

She says that Serbia is often called “The Silicon Valley of the Balkans” in the world, one of the top five destinations for digital nomads. We have excellent talents in industrial and graphic design, gaming, software design, through painting and visual arts, to performing arts, film and music.

Serbia has confirmed its participation in the next world exhibit in Osaka in 2025, and the first preparations are in progress.

– It is especially important to emphasize that Serbia, more precisely Belgrade, has applied for the hosting of the specialized 2027 Expo. If we win this candidacy, it will be a great honor and incentive for our future development – Ana Ilic says.
