Next to the court of the Female Football Club “Masinac” in Ljubomira Nikolica Street in the Delijski Vis settlement, after an international campaign of the youth of two partner municipalities, the municipality of Pirdop, Bulgaria, and the City Municipality of Palilula, Nis, the Lilac Garden opened.
The first lilac seedlings were planted by the presidents of the two municipalities, Angel Gerov (Pirdop) and Bratislav Vuckovic (Palilula), with their associates. As announced, the Palilula Lilac Garden will soon be promoted in the municipality of Pirdop, Bulgaria.
The idea, which is a result of the one-year successful cooperation between the two municipalities on the project of “The Joint Initiative for Nature Protection Through the Improvement of Air, Land and Water Quality in the Cross-Border Region”, (co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg-IPA Program of Bulgaria-Serbia cross-border cooperation), got a new dimension, according to the president of the municipality of Palilula, Bratislav Vuckovic.
It was agreed for the cooperation of the two municipalities to continue after the completion of said project. One of the numerous propositions made during the preparation of the project was to plant lilac seedlings in certain locations and for the new green areas to be named after the partner municipality as a sign of the successful cooperation in the municipalities of Palilula and Pirdop.
The activity was supported by the City of Nis – PUE Mediana (Greenery Sector) and EKOpolis – Media Ecology Network of Serbia.
