From today, in all stores in Serbia, meat and meat products which contain more than 50% locally produced meat will be tagged with a special graphic “Made in Serbia”, according to the Rulebook on the declaration, tagging and marketing of food of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The new tag will be displayed in a prominent place, next to the meat and meat products, or next to the price tag, and should be at least the same size as the price tag, the ministry says on its website.
As pointed out, the ministry made this decision to further incite local meat production in line with agriculturists’ proposition.
It is emphasized that, thanks to this measure, purchasers will have a clear insight into the origin of the product they’re buying.
Also, this will show consumers where they can buy local products, and it will also serve as a promotion of the advantages of the quality of local products.
The Ministry of Agriculture expects this measure to have a long-term positive impact on the local production.
The stipulation of said rulebook specify that the graphic tag “Made in Serbia” can be used to mark beef, pork, lamb, goat and poultry meat (fresh, chilled or frozen).
