After it has fully paid out the construction of the panoramic “Gold Gondola”, the municipality of Cajetina plans to extend the route of this tourist attraction, on the stretch from the existing interstation Ribnica to the Cigota peak. This leg will be 4.5 kilometers long.

– Putting Cigota into the function of sports tourism will be one of our next jobs. The preparation of the preliminary design and the creation of the conditions for us to publish the tender for the procurement of the equipment for the new leg of the gondola by the end of the year are in progress – emphasized Milan Stamatovic, the president of the Municipality of Cajetina.

Prior to carrying out this job, “Gold Gondola” will get another 20 cabins for the existing route, in order to reduce crowding and shorten the waiting at the first station of this tourist attraction. The mechanical facility at the last station is planned to be covered by a canopy, and the works on the management building remain to be finished.

– So far, “Gold Gondola” has transported nearly 300,000 visitors of Zlatibor. At the end of last year, we paid the final loan installment, so, from now on, the entire profit will be put into new investments on Zlatibor and in the entire municipality – Stamatovic added.

The long-term plans for Zlatibor are even more ambitious: the expectation is that, eventually, as a profitable attraction, the gondola will be extended toward Mokra Gora and Pribojska Banja.

– We will discuss this idea with the neighboring municipalities and with Emir Kusturica in order to build an attraction of a regional character and integrate the entire tourism offer of our area into a network – Stamatovic points out.

Let us remind that “Gold Gondola” started operating in January 2021 and has since been the most significant source of income on the most visited Serbian mountain. The construction cost more than EUR 13 million was financed with the proceeds from the loan that the Municipality of Cajetina finished repaying at the end of 2021.
