Judging by the billboards that have been set up in several locations in Vranje, on which the German company Haix is inviting interested people from Vranje to apply for jobs in footwear manufacture, it is increasingly likely that this is the German investor that is to arrive to Vranje.

That a German investor, much more solid than Geox, is arriving to Vranje after the Italian factory closed down and the workers were laid off and that it would employ around 1,000 workers over the course of a year was announced by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in late 2021, without disclosing the details about which company it is or what it does.

With only ten days left until February, there are still no official details about it, and billboards from which Haix, a German company which produces military, police and fire-fighting footwear, is now inviting the people of Vranje to “become part of the family” and join their production team in Bunusevac, have sprung up in Vranje.

Along with the invitation, the billboards feature the address for the application and the company name “Haix oprema d.o.o. Bunusevac bb”, but the jobs that the people of Vranje might apply for are not listed, and, according to the findings of the local media, for the time being, all job positions in tailoring, preparation and sewing are open.

According to the data available on the official website of Haix, the company was founded in 1948 in the Bavarian city of Mainburg. It currently has over 1,700 workers.

In the region, it only operates in Croatia, in Mala Subotica, since 2009, where around 1,300 workers are employed.

In the American market, they have been present since 2003, and they produce protective gear – footwear for the military, the police, firefighters and other specialized types of footwear, for Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Kuwait, Sweden, USA, Germany.

According to their official website, the company uses only the leather produced under special conditions in Germany.

Let us remind that around 1,000 workers of Geox in Vranje lost their jobs in early August, and there is still no solution for the majority of them. The most recent promise made by president Vucic was that 350 of them would get a job at the Turkish company Teklas.

Teklas currently has around 1,200 workers, around 300 of whom are from Vranje, with an average salary of around RSD 50,000.
