International Tender for River Transport in Belgrade City Territory Soon – Decision on Partner in February
The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, pointed out on that occasion that an international tender for river transport in the territory of the city of Belgrade would be published.
– According to the Law on Public-Private Partnership, this procedure takes 52 days and we will make the decision on the selection of the partner and the establishment of public linear river transport in the territory of the city in February at the latest. This means that we will finally use our two rivers, the Danube and the Sava and establish river transport and public transport stands on the coasts. Finally, the people who live in the river coastal areas will be able to use them for river transport – Vesic said, as announced on the city’s website.
He reminded that Belgrade had over 100 kilometers of unused river coasts.
– The citizens will be able to use the same card for transport by tram, bus or boat. That is why I believe that this is a historic thing for Belgrade, because it is important to implement another form of public transport. This is another step toward having our public transport become ecologically acceptable, because, on those lines, we will reduce the number of buses and traffic jams – said the deputy mayor.
He emphasized that this was not just a transportation project, but also an environmental one, and added that he was glad that the project is supported by the Government of Serbia.
– Belgrade is the only big city in Europe which has two big rivers, and it is not using them for public transport. Today we are launching the procedure for this project to be realized – Vesic concluded.
The city secretary for public transport, Jovica Vasiljevic, reminded that the Secretariat for Public Transport and the Secretariat for Economy had prepared a project of a public-private partnership for the river transport in the territory of the city of Belgrade and submitted it to the government’s Commission for Public-Private Partnership and that the commission had given a positive opinion on it.
– The proposed duration period for the public-private partnership is 30 years. The private partner is obliged to put 11 passenger boats into operation, to build a marina and a depot for their handling, maintenance and servicing. Two lines are envisaged in the first phase, one from Block 45 to the Sports and Recreation Center Milan Gale Muskatirovic and another from Zemun to Ada Huja – Vasiljevic pointed out.
