A Step Closer to Cancer Therapy with the Help of Nuclear Medicine in Serbia – State Commissions Analysis of Possibility of Production of Radiopharmaceuticals
Among other things, the study should encompass the possibility of the production and use of radionuclides in nuclear medicine in Serbia, an overview of the available equipment and staff, the possibilities of selling the produced radionuclides outside the country’s territory and an economic analysis of the entire investment.
According to the technical specifications of the tender, nuclear medicine is one of the specialized fields of radiology, where radioactive isotopes of selected elements (radionuclides) are used in order to diagnose or treat certain medical conditions, including cancer.
The most frequently used detection systems in nuclear medicine, it is added, are called gamma cameras.
– In therapy procedures, it is necessary to concentrate a sufficient quantity of radioactive materials, usually in the location of the tumor, so that the emitted radiation would destroy it or reduce its volume. Diagnostic techniques developed in nuclear medicine have great advantages compared to other modalities of diagnostics or therapy – the tender says.
The tender expires on December 20.
