Construction of Nis-Merdare Highway Begins
The Nis-Plocnik section will have six tunnels, 12 bridges and a large number of overpasses, underpasses and viaducts, due to which it is split into four subsections.
These are the interchanges Merosina-Merosina 1 (5.5 kilometers), Merosina 1-Prokuplje East Interchange (8.8 km), Prokuplje East Interchange-Prokuplje West Interchange (12.8 km) and Prokuplje West Interchange-Beloljin Interchange (5.5 km).
The estimated value of the works is EUR 225 million, of which EUR 185 million is secured from the loans of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EUR 40 million is provided by the EU, and EUR 30 million is secured from the budget of Serbia.
For the rest of the highway to Merosina, the documentation for the building permit and the tendering documentations are being prepared.
The deadline for the completion of the works on the first section is 2026.
On the entire section of the nearly 77 kilometers long highway to the Merdare administrative checkpoint, 85 bridges and 18 kilometers of tunnels are planned.
That is part of the future highway Nis-Pristina-Durres, 383 kilometers long, which will connect Serbia with the largest port in Albania and be the connection of Corridor 10 with Route 6 (Skopje-Pristina) and Route 2b (Sarajevo-Podgorica-Vlore).
