Construction of Embankment for Depot of Future Belgrade Subway in Makis Begins
He added that, that morning, the removal of the shrubbery and the humus layer had begun in that area, so that 480,000 cubic meters of rock would be piled on. Following that, Petrovic said, 1.7 million cubic meters of compacted sand will be added, with a height of 1.5 to 4 meters.
– The current altitude of the terrain is 70 to 72 meters, and the aim is for the future embankment to have an altitude of 74 meters. Two reinforced-concrete collectors for the draining of rainwater with a pumping station, which will be powered by the new substations, will be built as well. This will enable a controlled drainage of rainwater to the existing and future canals – Petrovic said.
He emphasized that no underground works would be done, but exclusively the establishment of an embankment to the 74-m cote.
– Considering that, in the past years, when there were floods, the level of ground waters would rise up to 73 meters, by doing this, we are not only securing the entire area from flooding, but also the future depot – Petrovic said.
He added that the works would be done by around a hundred workers, using the most modern mechanization.
– The project of the construction of the Belgrade Subway is very important for Serbia and its capital city and we will do our best to complete the works with high quality and on time – stated the authorized representative of the company PowerChina, Yang Bo.
He pointed out that PowerChina is a global construction company, which has a rich experience in China and the world in building subway systems. As he said, the company has built over 20 subway systems in China and, outside the country, it has built subways in Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia.
– Using our previous experience, we believe that this project will be just as successful as the previous ones – Yang Bo added.
The agreements on the construction of the depot, the construction of access roads and the construction of stations and tunnels will be signed next year.
Stanko Kantar, the director of the PUE Beogradski metro i voz, recently told eKapija that, following the preparatory works, the infrastructural facilities of the depot and access roads were to be built and that the beginning of the construction of the depot facility was planned for November 2022.
