Over EUR 200 Million to be Invested Annually in Increasing Energy Efficiency
– Today in Serbia we spend 40% more energy than what is average in EU states. An increase in energy efficiency must become a national project and in the upcoming years we will invest between 200 and 250 million euros in this field, with the aim of reducing the consumption of energy in a few years. If we manage to help at least 80% citizens to replace the carpentry and the insulation, to potentially install solar panels on their roofs, we will reduce the amount of energy that we spend, and the estimates are that we annually waste the amount that is equivalent to the production of a thermal power plant. The state will subsidize citizens in the amount of 50% of the overall costs of the replacement of the carpentry and the insulation and the installing of solar panels and we need at least four years to increase the energy efficiency and to get to the EU average. This year, we didn’t manage to secure subsidies from the budget for all citizens, since there is a great interest, but, for next year, we have set aside EUR 240 million. People are aware of the importance of investing in energy efficiency, which leads to lower electricity and heating bills – Mihajlovic said.
