The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has said that he will request from the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, the import of three billion cubic meters of gas a year and the signing of a ten-year agreement.

He said that the agreement on the import of gas from Russia expired at the end of the year, but that he would request increased flows urgently, because the reserves at the Banatski Dvor gas storage facility are spent on a daily basis.

– Serbia and Ukraine have the cheapest electricity for citizens in Europe, and the price of gas is also among the cheapest ones. Serbia pays USD 270 per 1,000 cubic meters for it, and today it jumped from USD 960 to USD 1,100 per 1,000 cubic meters. Our low prices of electricity and gas attract investors – Vucic said on TV Happy.

He added that it was necessary to expand the Banatski Dvor gas storage and that, in the meantime, he would ask the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, to enable Serbia to pay for the storage of gas, because it has an enormous gas storage facility of seven billion cubic meters, “so that we could tap into it when necessary”.
