AIK Bank is further strengthening its position in the local market

AIK Banka a.d. Beograd has signed the sales and purchase agreement on the acquisition of Sberbank Srbija a.d. Beograd, as part of the joint agreement signed between Sberbank Europe AG and AIK Banka a.d. Beograd, Gorenjska Banka d.d. Kranj and AEC Ltd. on the purchase of Sberbank subsidiaries in Serbia (Sberbank Srbija a.d. Beograd), Slovenia (Sberbank Banka d.d.), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sberbank BH d.d. Sarajevo and Sberbank a.d. Banja Luka), Croatia (Sberbank d.d.) and Hungary (Sberbank Magyarország Zrt.) whose total assets amount to EUR 7,329 billion.

The signing of the agreement was preceded by a process during which a thorough analysis was done. The large regional presence and experience, the clear vision of the future growth of the banks and the dedication of the provision of quality services to clients have all resulted in AIK Banka a.d. Beograd, Gorenjska Banka d.d. and AEC Ltd. being considered the most attractive bidder.

The president of the Executive Board of AIK Bank, Jelena Galic, has placed special focus on joint growth and further development, with a dedication to a constant improvement of the services.

– After the successfully realized acquisition of Alpha Bank in Serbia and Gorenjska Banka in Slovenia, this acquisition is another very important step in the further development of AIK Bank, but also a confirmation of our operations so far. The boosting of our presence in the countries we already operate in, but also the expansion of the operations of our banking group to new markets, is in line with our strategic orientation to position ourselves as one of the leading banking groups in Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to the growth of business operations, our primary goal remains to provide our clients, both the existing ones and the new ones, with the best user experience through innovative and modern banking products created in line with their real needs – Galic pointed out.

Following the realization of the process of acquisition of Sberbank subsidiaries in Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Hungary, AIK Bank will be at the head of a regional banking group whose assets exceed EUR 11 billion. With this acquisition, AIK Bank continues its operations with a strong capital basis and the size of the assets that puts it among the top five banks in the Serbian market, with a market share of 8.3%.

The finalization of transaction is expected during 2022, upon the obtaining of the approvals by the competent national and European regulators.
