Supervisory Board of EPS Proposes Implementation of Strategic Reserve
The acting director of EPS, Milorad Grcic, clarified that a strategic reserve meant the conservation of all the power plants that were supposed to stop working regularly and their de-conservation and re-launching in the case of an energy crisis.
He added that the initiative aimed to secure a stable supply at unchanged prices for the citizens of Serbia.
– The capacities that are conserved following an analysis by professional services may be activated in the conditions of the crises similar to the current one, in cases of market disturbances, that is, when the price and the quantities of electrical energy justify the operations of the thermal capacities that are in the strategic reserve – he pointed out.
The executive director for electrical energy trade, Dragan Vlaisavljevic, clarified that this temporary solution was modeled after those from the EU.
– Some countries, like Germany, have implemented strategic reserves and are activating them in this situation, whereas Romania is fully dependent on wind power. The current law is trade-oriented, and if the ministry accepts this initiative, we could preserve the existing capacities and build new ones – Vlaisavljevic said.
Petar Stanojevic, a member of the Supervisory Board representing the Government of Serbia, welcomed the initiative and pointed out that he was also in favor of strategic reserves and capacity conservation, because, according to him, this is the first big energy crisis, but it won’t be the last one.
