The Government of Serbia has so far not made a decision on the price of electrical energy for the economy, but we are considering it and the decision will be made soon, the director of EPS, Milorad Grcic, said today while addressing the members of the company’s Supervisory Board regarding the investments realized in the past five years.

He said that the energy crisis had shown that the problems for the economy of Serbia would be big if some thermal capacities which produce power from lignite had been closed.

He pointed out that, in that case, some factories would be closed, whereas others would be dislocated.

The director of EPS pointed out that the company’s goal was to have more installed and thermal and hydro potentials in five years, but also for the ratio of thermal to hydro power plants to be shifted from 70/30% to 60/40%.

He reminded that EUR 600 million was being invested in three projects of desulfuring in thermal power plants. EPS is involved in the project of the construction of the reversible hydro power plant Bistrica 2, which Grcic estimated as a higher priority than Djerdap 3, because, in addition to a production of 0.7 TW, will enable an easier balancing of the production.

He said that there were calculations with the planned revitalization of the sixth generator of Djerdap 1, as well as Djerdap 2, due to the power crisis in the world.

The plans of EPS are to have 240 MW of installed solar capacities and 100 MW from wind farms by 2030, he said and estimated that the company was not against green energy.

He emphasized that he was proud of the expansion of EPS outside Serbia, that is, the investment in the construction of the hydro power plants of the Upper Drina, where EUR 250 million will be invested in installed power of 181 MW.

He announced that the Block 3 of the TPP Kostolac of 350 MW, in whose construction EUR 542 is being invested, would be connected to the network in 2023.

He pointed out that EPS would continue fighting for the continuation of the construction of the TPP Kolubara B-Kalenic, for whose 350 MW he announced an investment of up to EUR 400 million.
