Contest for Designing of First 16 Stations on First Subway Line Opens

The PUE Beogradski metro i voz and the Secretariat for Public Transport of the City of Belgrade have opened the contest for the designing of the stations of the first subway line.

This is the first phase of the first line of the future Belgrade subway, which entails 16 stations.

Eligible applicants, according to the notice, are natural persons with college education in architecture, regardless of their territorial origin or personal characteristics, or legal persons which name a person with college education in architecture.

Among other qualities, the jury will value the works based on the concept of Line 1, which is realized through the design of the stations, the achieved esthetic level, the architectural solution and design in the sense of the branding of the Belgrade Subway, the urban qualities of the solution, the choice of the materials, the feasibility etc.

As for the awards, the total prize fund is RSD 7.95 million, and the condition is for at least 12 proposed designs to be submitted by the set deadline. First prize is RSD 3 million, second 2 million, third 1 million, and three buyouts, each worth RSD 650,000, are planned as well.

The jury will be led by the head urban planner of Belgrade, Marko Stojcic, his deputy will be the director of the PUE Beogradski metro i voz, Stanko Kantar, whereas the members and the reporting members will be experts from the Union of Architects of Serbia, which is the organizer of the contest, the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade and the PUE Beogradski metro i voz.


Each jury member who is not employed by the organizer of the contest gets an award of RSD 200,000 without the VAT (a total of RSD 600,000), and each reporting member gets a net sum of RSD 100,000.

Works may be submitted by December 14, at 3 PM, at the address of the Union of Architects of Serbia, and the results will be published on December 29.

The plan is to also exhibit the submitted works a month and a half following the announcement of the results.

Line 1 will go from Zeleznik to Mirijevo, be 21.3 kilometers long and have a total of 23 stations.
