The turmeric is a spice that has been used for centuries in India and Indonesia, and in the past decades, increasingly so in Europe as well.

Thanks to its medicinal properties, people in India see the turmeric as a holy food.

The spice is made by grinding the dried root of a tropical plant from the ginger family. The plant’s shape resembles that of a lumpy carrot, and the color is brownish-orange.

This magical spice gives the food a nice orange-yellow color, and its special taste enriches numerous cooked meals, dips, sauces, but also sweet creams. Especially important is its main ingredient, curcumin, which plays a role in preventing many diseases.

The turmeric is now easily available and can be bought at any health food store, and it has become an especially popular and well known spice in these areas as well in the past 10 years.

There are plenty of reasons why the turmeric should be part of your diet.

– It has strong antibacterial properties.

– It removes bad breath and prevents the spreading of bacteria in the mouth, because it contains the phytonutrient curcumin.

– It is also recommended as an addition to the regular therapy for bone diseases and rheumatoid arthritis.

– It has antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties, thanks to its active ingredient coumarin, which helps stop liver damage. It stimulates the renewal of the intestine flora in a natural way. It is one of the strongest natural antibiotics, which doesn’t destroy the flora and the good bacteria in the intestines.

– It also plays a role in protecting the heart and blood vessels, and it also helps regulate the bad cholesterol.

– It is an additional alternative method in treating eczema, along with the regular therapy, but also in lowering blood sugar.

– If you choose to include the turmeric in your diet, combine it with ground black pepper, so as to use it to its full extent.
