Last year, Italy was the second most important trade partner of Serbia and the second one on the list when it comes to the exports of the Serbian economy, and, in the first seven months of the current year, the goods exchange grew by a considerable 27% and I assure you that, in the upcoming period, the relations of Italy and Serbia will continue developing in all fields, the minister of trade, tourism and telecommunications of Serbia, Tatjana Matic, stated in Krnjesevci.

At the opening of a new industrial gas filling plant of the Italian company Istrabenz Plini, she said that the cooperation of the two countries was characterized by a great volume of goods exchange, which has ranged between 3.3 and 4.3 billion euros annually in the past 10 years, and an enviable scope of cooperation in the field of banking services, which is crucial for investments of the Italian economy in Serbia.

– Italy is ninth among investors in Serbia – minister Matic said and emphasized that the team of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, was making great efforts to create the conditions for investors’ operations, despite the pandemic crisis.

She also reminded that the friendship between the two countries was also shown during the pandemic by Serbia’s aid to Italy and Italian companies’ continued investments in Serbia.

The ambassador of Italy to Belgrade, Carlo Lo Cascio, stated that Serbia put a lot of emphasis on sustainability and new technologies and that Italy had great experiences with representatives of Serbian authorities when it comes to economic cooperation.

– We need to see this country in a new light in order to be able to stay here, to grow and remain competitive. There are over 16,000 companies with Italian capital, they employ over 50,000 people and generate over 5.5% of the GDP of Serbia. In the next couple of years, we need to boost our operations here and we would like to bring new companies and business groups here – ambassador Lo Cascio said.

Istrabenz Plini, headquartered in Slovenia, is a member of the Italian SAID group, the second biggest producer of technical and medical gases in Europe and the world.

It invested EUR 14 million in the filling plant in Krnjesevci, and the capacity of a new filling facility is 300 tons of various gases a month.
