Citizens of Belgrade to Vote on Subway Design by September 15 – Four Designs Presented

A presentation of the design of the rail cars for the Belgrade Subway was held at the Old Palace, following which a 3D projection of the four rail car designs was organized at the plaza in front of the palace, called “Light, Power, Freedom and Security”. The citizens of Belgrade are to vote on what the subway will look like on the city’s website.

The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, emphasized that the voting would take exactly two months, until September 15, when it will become known which design was picked by the citizens of Belgrade and “what the Belgrade Subway will look like in the upcoming centuries”, Beoinfo reports.

The value of the construction of the first two subway lines has been estimated at EUR 4.6 billion, and the works are supposed to start in November 2021.

The French ambassador to Serbia, Jean-Louis Falconi, said that the Belgrade Subway had been the biggest joint effort in the relations between Serbia and France for several years.

– In choosing the design of the rail cars, the citizens of Belgrade have the opportunity to truly make the subway their own – Falconi said.

Philippe Delleur, the senior vice president of the public affairs department at Alstom, said that the most modern technology would be used in the construction:

– Compared to traditional ways of construction, we will use somewhat different models in order to achieve maximum energy savings and the optimal use of the infrastructure to be built. The design of the subway will also be subject to the most modern methods.
