The foundation stone for the construction of the new building of the BioSense Institute, within the complex of the University of Novi Sad, has been laid down, the City of Novi Sad announced.

The Government of Serbia adds that the entire building will be financed through the Antares project, whose value is EUR 28 million, and the construction works on this building will cost more than EUR 7 million. The new home of the European center of excellence will spread on nearly 7,000 m2.

The new building of the institute will be located on a parcel of 1,400, between the Djacko Igraliste location, the greenhouse of the Faculty of Sciences and the Suncani Kej location, and it will be unique in the country, because, thanks to the special anti-vibration characteristics of the facility, it will enable the use of the most modern scientific equipment necessary for the development of micro and nano electronics, sensors and other devices.

The head of the European Investment Bank for the Western Balkans, Alessandro Bragonzi, emphasizes that the EIB wants to help everyone on the European path of modernization, whereas the deputy head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Mateja Norcic Stamcar, emphasizes that the importance of this institute exceeds the borders of Serbia, because it will have an impact on the region and the entire Europe in the field of sustainable agriculture, which proves that the EU counts on Serbia.

– I am sure that the BioSense Institute will have the best working conditions and that the most successful young scientists will work here and do everything in their power to boost the crops by improving the environmental protection, which is a requirement for the progress of any state. The city will invest 60 million in the infrastructure, pedestrian lanes, parking spaces, and Dr Zorana Djindjica Street will be extended by around 150 meters. This is a new strength of our state and Novi Sad. I want to thank Prime Minister Ana Brnabic for her support in all the development projects in our city. Speaking of which, we are looking at the second phase of the construction of the Science-Technology Park. This new, better reality of Serbia prevents our children from leaving here – said the mayor of Novi Sad, Milos Vucevic.

The prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, points out that it is her great pleasure that she has contributed, through the symbolic laying down of the foundation stone for the BioSense Institute, to it no longer having to rent space at the Rectorate.

– So much effort, work and struggle for this day. Today, we are not only laying down the foundation stone for a building, but something that is much more important than that – for the further scientific progress of Serbia and its further positioning on the innovation map of the world, for promoting Serbia as a country which can offer knowledge, innovations and hard work, and not a country of cheap labor force. Thanks to the EIB and the EU, which have recognized the importance of this project, and it is very important, because it can lead us to an even more dynamic advancement to the European Union – Brnabic said.
