Lidl Begins Construction of Second Logistics Center in Serbia in Lapovo – Investment of Around EUR 70 Million for 57,000 m2 of Space
The second logistics center of Lidl Srbija will take up 57,000 m2 and have a capacity for storing over 35,000 pallet spaces and 130 loading and unloading ramps, the company says in a press release.
From the very beginning of the construction, the company will comply with the highest standards of sustainable building – through the use of sustainable construction materials, a more efficient use of water and energy and the provision of better working conditions.
Exclusively local design, supervisory and construction companies are hired for the project.
– Today we are marking the beginning of the construction of a new, second, logistics center of our company. It is a considerable investment of around EUR 70 million, whose result will be a modern logistics center, which will be finished in the next 12 months. In addition to the importance to the business of our company, this investment is also important for our economy, because exclusively local construction companies will be hired and we will employ around 250 new colleagues. As a socially responsible company, in addition to economic aspects, Lidl always takes into account ecological aspects as well, which we paid special attention to. One of the things I would like to point out is that the roof of the future logistics center will feature solar panels, which will partially supply the facility with energy – stated Dragan Cigoja.
The construction of the new logistics center is a clear next step in the development of the operations of this company, which recently opened its 50th store. From the autumn of 2022, quality fresh products will arrive every day from the logistics center in Lapovo to the shelves of the Lidl stores throughout Central and Southern Serbia.
– The construction of the logistics center in Lapovo and the one in Nova Pazova three years ago is proof of the strong perspective of the retail market in the region. It is proof of the right policy of the Government of Serbia toward investors, but also the serious intention of Lidl Srbija when it comes to the development of the local market. The logistics center in Lapovo is also important for the fact that it will largely contribute to the coverage of this part of Serbia, but also give an opportunity to local suppliers to cooperate with Lidl Srbija, which already offers more than 500 products made by local suppliers – stated Uros Kandic.
In addition to the importance for the economy of Serbia, this investment is also important for the local community. Some of the positive effects of this investment on a local level are already visible, such as the nearly 2 kilometers of built access roads with the most modern infrastructure, the development of Liparksi Potok along the entire length of the parcel and the construction of a new extraction pump.
The president of the municipality of Lapovo, Boban Milicic, expressed his gratitude to Lidl Srbija, which, according to him, has recognized the favorable geostrategic position of this municipality.
– The location of the municipality, alongside the E-75 route, will enable a quick and efficient supply of all future Lidl stores in Serbia, and Lidl has financed, from its own funds, the construction of around 1,700 m of access roads with the most modern infrastructure. The creation of around 250 new jobs is invaluable for the municipality. The employees will be provided with good working conditions and a cordial atmosphere, in line with the latest world standards. I would like to point out that, in addition to said economic benefits, Lidl also provides considerable ecological benefits when it comes to energy savings – stated Milicic, pointing out that local companies would be working on the project of construction of the logistics center and emphasizing the importance of new jobs.
That Lidl always takes care to base its business on social responsibility, thereby ensuring a positive influence on the entire environment it operates in in Serbia, is confirmed, in addition to the high investment, new jobs and the hiring of local construction companies, by the fact that the new logistics center will make ecological contributions, especially in the form of energy savings, it was concluded.
