Zijin: Majdanpek Copper Mine Meets All Requirements of Government’s Working Group for Pek River Pollution
The statement says that the working group and the inspection team checked a day before the deadline (April 29) whether the Majdanpek copper mine had met all the requirements related to the elimination of the impact on the quality of the water in the river. It was determined that Serbia Zijin Copper had realized the imposed measures for an increase of the efficiency of water treatment at the Majdanpek mine, but also that the company was taking a range of other measures aiming to reduce the environmental impact of its activities and solving the numerous inherited problems in this field step by step.
The company, it is added, has also been praised for the realization of a project which was not part of the imposed measures and pertains to a return of 95% of the process waters from the filtration to the flotation facility of the Majdanpek mine.
Representatives of Zijin also promised that the inherited problems would be solved step by step until the final goal of having “the waters clearer and the mountains greener”.
They will work in line with the environmental standards until they achieve the goal of a “green mine” and the plan of having the mine eventually turned into a garden and the mining becoming a green industry, the company’s press release concludes.
