Momirovic: Nearly EUR 300 Million to be Invested in Development of Water Transport
In an article published in the annual newsletter of the Port Governance Agency, the minister announced that the funds would be invested in the construction of the new Port of Belgrade and the expansion of the capacities of the ports of Bogojevo, Sremska Mitrovica and Prahovo, as well as in the development of the intermodal terminal in Batajnica.
He said that the additional port capacities would contribute to the improvement of the range of services they offer, an increase of the cargo reloading capacity, the competitiveness and the creation of new jobs.
Momirovic emphasized that the priority of the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Construction was to consistently carry out the “Serbia 2025” program, because it covers all the key infrastructure projects.
– Along with every kilometer of a road built and the modernization of the railways, it is equally important for us to accelerate the development of water transport in the upcoming period, so that Serbia would become a multimodal hub of this part of Europe – the minister says.
Momirovic said that the capital project of the new port in Belgrade would bring the country much closer to meeting that goal. This way, he specified, the Belgrade port will connect road, rail and air routes with the entire region and some of the most important TEN-T corridors, such as the Orient/East-Mediterranean Corridor, the Mediterranean Corridor and the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor.
He emphasized that the vision of the Government of Serbia and the competent ministry was for the Serbian ports to become the driving engines of the development of the adjacent economy.
