The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, yesterday signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation of Belgrade and Brussels at the Old Palace in Belgrade.

The aim is for the two cities to establish brotherly relations, Vesic pointed out.

– This is the first step, which will be made concrete through the Charter of Brotherhood. The agreement following our visit to Brussels was not realized so quickly due to the coronavirus pandemic – Vesic explained.

The agreement, he specified, is for the signed memorandum to be sent to Brussels, so that the two cities would start cooperating.

– For Decades, Brussels has had the Belgrade Street. Recently, the City Assembly of Belgrade named one street in the capital of Serbia after Brussels, thereby showing respect – Vesic emphasized.

He added that the agreement with Brussels entailed cooperation in culture, public administration, education and other fields that the two cities deem important.

– I expect Pascal Smet, a signatory to the agreement, to visit Belgrade on behalf of the Brussels- Capital Region, when we will have the opportunity to visit the Brussels Street and have a concrete conversation about the two cities’ cooperation – Vesic announced.

Belgrade is an open city, the deputy mayor added.

– We want cooperation with cities in Europe and the world that are looking to exchange experiences. Considering that Belgrade was built on openness and influence of various cultures, we believe that cooperation is the way for making each other better – Vesic concluded, Beoinfo reports.
