Here Technologies, a company which provides digital mapping and location services, has announced that it will map parts of Serbia this spring, using a high-precision 3D technology, as part of the efforts to offer the most advanced maps of the world.
According to a press release by this Amsterdam-based company, Here plans to ride the streets of Serbia between April and June 2021, using a car equipped with the technology for recording high-precision data on the roads, including the vertical and the horizontal traffic signalization.
A clearly marked Here car will take panoramic images of the streets and points of interest, such as stores, gas stations and restaurants, using a 3D technology.
The information will be used to prepare rich, detailed maps of Serbia, designed to support autonomous vehicles and other advanced services which increase road safety, reduce traffic jams and enable people to move more easily within urban areas.
In the upcoming months, the vehicle will operate the main roads through the country and the streets of certain cities, and the entire process will be carried out without affecting the traffic in any way, the press release says.
Here Technologies is dedicated to honoring and respecting privacy. The collected panoramic images of the streets are first stored in the vehicle and then transferred in an encrypted form and stored in a secure facility.
The images are further processed by using advanced algorithms for revealing and blurring faces and license plates. The panoramic images are only published once the faces and the license plate numbers are blurred.
In an extremely rare case that the image is not properly blurred, Here Technologies facilitates the process of reporting. Simply open the image and click on the “Report Image” link in the lower left corner of the map, the company clarifies.
