Cukaru Peki Mine Near Bor to Open This Summer – Investments of USD 474 Million in Development and Construction of Upper Zone

The general manager of Zijin Mining, Fu Feilong, has stated that the Cukaru Peki mine near Bor is to open this summer, the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia announced.

The projected investments in the development and construction of the upper zone of the Cukaru Peki mine amount to USD 474 million, as said at the meeting with Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic and the managing director of the majority owner of RTB Bor, the Chinese company Zijin Copper, Jian Ximing,

It was also said that, with the beginning of the operations of the copper and gold mine Cukaru Peki, the conditions were met for the exploitation of those ores, with an annual capacity of 3.3 million tons, and for an increase in the production of the copper concentrate, which is important for the GDP growth and the creation of new jobs.

– The ministry and the public companies from the energy and mining sector are there to help you realize the investment which is of remarkable importance for the state. We are there to support the planned projects, as well as investments in green technologies and activities directed at environmental protection. A lot of it has stalled in the past period. With great efforts from the ministry and EMS, we have commenced these processes and things are being resolved now – Mihajlovic said.


Among other things, the power supply, the reconstruction of the substations in Majdanpek, the flotations Veliki Krivelj and Bor 5, the amendments to the Law on Mining and the continuation of the mining activities at the Veliki Krivelj mine were discussed at the meeting.

The participants agreed for a special meeting with the mayor of Bor and the local community, where the moving of the residents of the village of Veliki Krivelj would be discussed, to be organized.

The meeting was also attended by the director of EMS, the director of the Bor Institute and representatives of the Embassy of China in Serbia.
