The beginning of the construction of two public garages in Belgrade city center – near Branko’s Bridge and the National Assembly of Serbia. Both garages are estimated as high-frequency, that is, they are estimated to have a high occupancy rate, considering the highlights located around them and a deficit in parking which is present in those parts of the city, the head urban planner of Belgrade, Marko Stojcic, says for eKapija.

According to him, the construction of these garages will also help further extend the pedestrian zones.

– I primarily mean the garage in Fruskogorska Street, which should attract cars from Toplicin Venac and Kosancicev Venac streets. We expect the construction of this garage to begin in the autumn of 2021 – Stojcic says.

As eKapija already wrote, the urban project plans the construction of a garage with five underground levels, organized in 10 semi-levels, near Branko’s Bridge. The capacity of the garage is 384 spaces, and the total gross building area is 13,412 m2. In addition to the areas for the parking of passenger cars, the garage will also be able to accommodate a minimum of 20 bicycles, chargers for electric vehicles, official, auxiliary and technical rooms. The roof of the garage will be done as a green surface.

The second garage, the construction of which is expected in the early autumn, is located next to the National Assembly of Serbia, between Vlajkoviceva and Kosovska streets. According to Stojcic, this project is in the procedure of obtaining the building permit.

– What makes this garage interesting is that a whole new park and a park area will be located above it. The current park which is located next to the National Assembly of Serbia is entirely undeveloped and requires a full reconstruction, which the construction of this garage will further accelerate – Stojcic says.

Let us remind that the urban project envisages a garage capacity of 284 parking spaces, of the total gross area of 10,000 m2. In addition to the areas for the parking of passenger cars, the garage will also be able to accommodate 40 bicycles and motorcycles, chargers for electric cars, official, auxiliary and technical rooms. A green roof, arranged as a green area and shaped in line with the environment of the remaining part of the park, as a protected cultural good, is also planned.

In mid-2019, the City of Belgrade signed the agreement on the concession for the designing, financing, construction, management, maintenance and transfer of four underground garages in the territory of Belgrade with China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Co. Ltd. In addition to the garages on the corner of Kosovska and Vlajkovica streets and in Fruskogorska Street near Kosancicev Venac Street, another two are planned, on the Students Square and the Republic Square.

As announced at the time, the garage on the Republic Square will be located beneath the new cultural center, currently the Staklenac building.

The construction of an underground garage on the Students Square, as said earlier, is waiting for a decision to be made by archaeologists.

– If the excavations do not reveal historical layers and built artifacts, the construction of an underground garage with around 700 parking spaces on three underground levels will begin in the Students Square area – Stojcic announced earlier.
