One of the most important new features in the Law on Renewable Energy Sources is to enable the citizens and the economy to set up solar panels and to be not just purchasers, but also producers of electrical energy, said Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic.

– Today, the price of these technologies is much lower than before and we want very house, residential building, production hall, sports center, from the east to the west and from the north to the south of Serbia, to be able to have solar panel on the roof. This means that, on one hand, citizens will have their costs reduced, being able to supply the surplus energy to the network, and on the other hand, as a country, we will use more energy from renewable sources and thereby get closer to our objective, which is green Serbia and to have at least 50% of the total energy by 2050 produced from RES – Mihajlovic said, as announced by the ministry.

Advisor to the president of the CCIS, Miroslav Lutovac, said that the new law was expected to lead to a real boom in the building of solar panels.

– In addition to the economy, I expect the citizens as well to recognize their interest when it comes to the usage of these technologies and to have micro-production be an important generator of power production from RES – he said.
