Serbia will host a prestigious European skiing tournament. Europa women's tournament in the slalom and grand slalom disciplines is to be held at the Crna Duboka track between on Kopaonik between February 22 and 25, 2021, as announced at yesterday’s media conference at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS).
A total of 90 competitors from 20 countries are expected to attend, and the tournament will be organized in compliance with all the epidemiological measures.
– The importance of sports events to the local and the regional economy is invaluable and requires the preparation and development of the infrastructure. It promotes the destination and increases the popularity of this sport. We believe that this will primarily mark the beginning of the stabilization of life in all spheres and that it will incite new events – said Tijana Maljkovic, the secretary of the Association for Tourism at the CCIS.
According to Zikica Nestorovic, the state secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the event “Europa Cup 2021” is especially important for the time it is being held in, “because it will confirm us as a serious, responsible, secure and safe tourist destination”.
– We can call this a historical event, because Europa Cup is being organized in Serbia for the first time in 37 years and we believe that the importance of this tournament is yet to become apparent, both for skiing as a sport and for Kopaonik, for being placed on the map of the International Ski Federation – said Goran Jevremovic, the president of the Ski Association of Serbia.
– This is the right way for skiing to find its place in Serbia and we expect Europa Cup 2021 to popularize this sport here – Jevremovic added.
Dejan Cika, the director of the PE Ski Resorts of Serbia, said that the plan for the future was to also bring the World Cup to a mountain in Serbia.
The organizers of the tournament are the Ski Association of Serbia, the PE Ski Resorts of Serbia and the Kopaonik Ski Center, under the sponsorship of the International Ski Federation (FIS) and with the support of the CCIS, the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications.
