Not Much Interest in Exemptions from Payment of Financial Obligations within the Third Moratorium

During the first month of the third moratorium, the interest in exemptions from payment of financial obligations was low, and the Association of Serbian Banks says that around 1% clients have addressed banks to opt for the exemptions.

The Secretary General of the Association of Serbian Banks, Vladimir Vasic, says for Tanjug that the low interest is in fact a good sign.

He points out that it is good that the third moratorium is longer, so all those who experience problems in servicing their obligations will be able to apply until the end of April.

The decision of the National Bank of Serbia, whereby the debtors affected by the pandemic are provided with exemptions from payment of obligations in banks, came into effect on December 15, 2020. Commercial banks were accordingly obliged to display the information regarding the exemptions on their web pages no later than December 22.

Unlike the first two moratoriums, the third one needed to be requested from banks by citizens and companies themselves. The moratorium allows exemptions in servicing the obligations in banks for citizens whose income has been substantially affected by the pandemic and for companies whose revenues have dropped for the same reason or those who had to stop working for a certain period of time.
