Superfast Freight Train Connects Siberia and Northern Europe
The first superfast freight train, carrying chemical products, traveled the route of 4,500 kilometers from the western Siberian station of Kopylovo in Tomsk Oblast to the Hamina station in Finland in only 5.5 days, whereas, previously, the transport of goods by rail on the same route took 11.5 days, announced the Russian Railways (RZD).
A special train schedule, coordinated with the Finnish rail authorities, also contributed to the shortening of the travel time, says the press release that RZD sent to Tanjug.
It is specified that the train, consisting of 82 rail cars, did not have to stop at any point for the purpose of additional shunting operations, which also considerably shortened the delivery time.
