Serbia is to build new hydro-power plants in the upcoming year and increasingly turn to green energy, says Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic.

– Investments are very important for energy security. For example, the hydro-power plants on the upper Drina are important when it comes to electrical energy and energy security of Serbia, but so is the construction of some other hydro-power plants – Mihajlovic said for Tanjug.

Serbia is already stable in terms of energy, regardless of the fact that it is partially import-dependent when it comes to gas and oil, Mihajlovic points out.

She still adds that the country is not import-dependent when it comes to power production and that new investments are being prepared.

– When we’re talking about gas, Balkan Stream is of great importance to us. It automatically means that we are not dependent on one line only, that is, on the gas we are supposed to receive through Ukraine – Mihajlovic said.

As for oil and oil products, Mihajlovic says that Serbia has quite a liberalized market of oil products and that it is clear to everyone.

She says that it is very important for NIS to operate well and that the company reported losses in 2020.

The minister also expects the Thermal Power Plant/Heating Plant Pancevo (TE-TO Pancevo) project to be finished and for all the new investments of NIS to ensure security when it comes to oil.
