Siemens Mobility Delivers First Tram Produced in Serbia to Bremen
According to the company, the successful checking of the tram by the purchaser is the main turning point for the factory, which is now fully integrated into the global production network of Siemens Mobility.
The order of Avenio trams for Bremen entails a total of 77 trams, 47 of which are to be produced in Kragujevac, Serbia. The assembly began in the spring of 2020, and the production is ongoing.
– Avenio trams are based on a modular approach of tested systems and components which enable customization per the clients’ needs, which, for Avenio Bremen, entails: vehicle length of 36.9 m, width of 2.65 m, maximum speed of 70 km/h and a capacity of 250 passengers – Siemens says in a press release.
Siemens Mobility acquired the factory in Kragujevac in 2018. As the first step, the production of components for Siemens Mobility vehicles begin in the summer of 2018.
In early 2020, the Kragujevac factory took over the job of the final assembly and commissioning of complete rail vehicles, that is, Avenio trams for select projects.
The factory is now a fully integrated part of the global network of Siemens Mobility production locations. At the moment, in Serbia, Siemens Mobility employs more than 800 workers in Serbia.
The factory also has an engineering center which attracts top-quality local engineering talents, giving an important contribution to the production and engineering footprint of Siemens Mobility in Europe, the press release adds.
