A consortium of Chinese companies has signed an agreement with the government of the Brazilian State of Bahia on the construction of a 12-km bridge, the largest in Latin America, which will connect the capital of Bahia, Salvador, with a neighboring island.

The construction of the bridge at the entrance to the Bay of All Saints will take five years and will cost USD 1.2 billion, Bahia's officials announced.

The job was entrusted to the consortium consisting of China Communications Construction, the CCCC Regional Company for South America, and China Railway 20 Bureau Group, a member of China Railway Construction.

The process of obtaining the necessary permits and construction equipment will take a year, SeeBiz reports.

– This is the largest investment of a Chinese group in Brazil, the governor of Bahia, Rui Costa, said on the occasion of the signing of the agreement and emphasized that the members of the consortium are the biggest construction and infrastructure companies in the world.
