– “Balkan Stream” has been completed and connected with the gas pipeline in Serbia. The official events related to the completion of the gas pipeline are not being held due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the ceremony will probably be held at a later date – a source said, the Russian media report.
In January 2019, Bulgaria adopted the decision to continue building the leg of TurkStream toward Serbia.
In relation to that, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic promised in October 2020 that Serbia would fully complete the construction of the gas pipeline from Bulgaria to the Hungarian border by the end of the year, Sputnik reports.
The construction of the Serbian section of TurkStream began in March 2019.
“Balkan Stream” is the leg of TurkStream through which Russian gas will be transported to Serbia and further to Europe.
The TurkStream gas pipeline, which started operating on January 8, goes from Russia, along the bottom of the Black Sea to the Turkish coast. The land transit leg then goes through Turkey to the neighboring countries' borders. The gas is already exported to Greece, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
After the completion of the construction of the entire infrastructure, the gas will go to Serbia and Hungary. The capacity of the gas pipeline, which is 930 km long, is 31.5 billion cubic meters a year, the information says.
