North Macedonia Considering Co-ownership in Gas Power Plant in Greece
At the same time, the government is preparing a plan for the country to switch from coal to other energy sources in the next period, such as gas, wind and sunlight, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said while visiting the reloading station in Skopje for the disposal of old furnaces and other non-ecological heating devices, as reported by the Nezavisen.mk portal.
– We have a clear energy strategy and we know that the time is coming when we should close the facilities based on coal. The state is considering accepting a very friendly offer from Greece, whereby we would be a co-owner of gas terminals in Alexandroupoli, where a gas central of 800 MW would be built, which would produce two and a half times more energy than the amount of the energy deficit that we have as a country – Zaev said.
He explained that the offer would be realized through direct investments of ESM.
The portal also says that, in no more than five years, a unit will be shut down in the Mining-Energy Complex Bitolj, and the same is to happen to the remaining two units in the next 10-15 years, depending on the European regulations.
