One of Split's Symbols to be Torn Down – New Investors to Bring Back 1960s Look to Hotel Marjan
After it is reconstructed, the former tourist pearl of Split and one of the city's most recognizable symbols will have a new tower, equal in height to the current one, but with one floor less, because of the demanded greater height of a single floor, Biznis info reports.
The investor, Adris grupa from Croatia, has hired 3LHD studio from Zagreb and famous Italian architect and designer Piero Lessoni on the project of the new hotel, and they are currently in the phase of obtaining location requirements.
According to unofficial announcements, the reconstruction will reduce the hotel by around 6.5 thousand square meters, aiming for a look close to the original one from the 1960s. The plan is to neutralize the consequences of the never completed reconstruction from around fifteen years ago.
Hotel Marjan, a former pride of the Split tourism, was bought by Zeljko Kerum for 170 million kunas (around EUR 22.5 million), three times the initial price, fifteen years ago.
He promised and announced a reconstruction and even signed an agreement with the Hilton chain, but the investments ended up toppling down his entire business empire, tportal writes.
