In the second quarter of the current year, the citizens of Serbia talked on their mobile phones for an average of 7.4 minutes, sent 1.6 text messages and spent 199 MB of broadband internet each day, according to An Overview of the Electronic Communications Market in the Republic of Serbia, published by the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL).
RATEL recorded that, in this period, there was a drop in the number of active mobile phone subscribers by nearly 3% compared to the previous quarter. This is a continuation of the drop from 8.59 million in the third quarter of 2019 to the current 8.1 million subscribers, and the drop is down to prepaid users, of whom there are more than half a million fewer since the third quarter of 2019.
In the second quarter, 8.1 million active users of the mobile network in Serbia made about 5.5 billion minutes of calls in the local and the international traffic and sent around 1.2 billion text messages.
RATEL says that, in this market, Telekom Srbija has the largest share, with 44.1% of the total number of users.
In the same period, the amount of data transferred through the mobile network grew to 109.5 million GB, which means that a user of mobile broadband access spent around 6 GM a month.
The number of active users of mobile broadband access did not change significantly in this quarter and is 6.21 million, RATEL says.
