An international contest will open for the development of each station of the Belgrade subway, as announced by the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic.

– Each station will be a veritable artwork and represent either the part of the city it's located in or an event from Serbia's history – he said on TV Pink.

Let us remind that, according to the public procurement plan of the Secretariat for Public Transport in Belgrade, which opened in May, the contest for the design of the subway station was supposed to open in June. The document also says that the estimated value of the contract is RSD 16.67 million and that it should be signed with the designers in August. The look of the stations was supposed to be known by the end of 2020. However, since the contest has not yet opened, it is likely that the other deadlines will be moved too.

According to the General Regulation Plan of the rail systems in Belgrade, which was published in February, the BG Subway stations will be built in four ways. More details can be found in a separate article.

The document says that Zeleznik, Ranzirna (Classification Yard) and Makis stations are to be built as aboveground stations, that 19 will be built as shallow underground ones and that 21 will be deep underground stations. The Cvetkova Pijaca station will be built at the greatest depth, at 38 meters below the surface.

As announced earlier, the first subway line would go from Makisko Polje (near Zeleznik) to Mirijevo, with a length of 21.3 kilometers and 23 stations. The second one would have 19.2 kilometers and 20 stations and go from Mirijevo to Zemun. More details about the routes and the station locations can be found in a separate article.
