Montenegro Planning Purchase of Boat and Relaunching of Bar-Bari Line – Strategy Envisages Increase of Port Capacities and Establishment of Intermodal Stations in Podgorica and Bijelo Polje
As the daily writes, Montenegro would thereby relaunch the line that is now operated by the Croatian Jadrolinija.
The line opened on June 18, 1965, since which time it has functioned regularly, except during the sanctions. Still, four years ago, Montenegro lost its Sveti Stefan II ship when Bureau Veritas de-classed it. The line was taken over by Croatia, whose Jadrolinija transports passengers on the Bar-Dubrovnik-Bari route.
However, as said in the Strategy of Development of Maritime Economy from 2020 to 2030, Montenegro plans to procure a new passenger ship. The purchase should be realized in 2022.
– The strategy of development of maritime economy envisages support pertaining to the procurement of a RO-RO passenger ship to the end of relaunching international maritime traffic and unobstructed line transport of goods and passengers between Montenegro and other countries of the region by local transporters. The activity is envisaged in the Action Plan and is to be realized in 2022 – the strategy reads.
