Application that erases text messages after reading

Tiger Woods' textual misconduct was the inspiration for TigerText, the iPhone application that tidies up your online trail.

TigerText allows users to command any message to automatically delete itself from the recipient's phone after a set period of time. The app lets users decide how long a text will exist. When that deadline is reached, it deletes it from everywhere, including the server on which it is stored.

Message recipients must also download TigerText, and then they can read the message for free. The messages are never saved on your phone, the recipient's phone, or your carrier's database - they are only saved on the TigerText server, which the vendor reports is purged every minute of the day.

Creator Jeffrey Evans claims his app isn't aimed solely at the adulterous and spies. According to him, it "brings safety and peace of mind to anyone who sends messages that are intended to remain private". He points out that the European Union ruled in 2006 that phone and Internet providers were required to keep all cell-phone and e-mail data for a certain period of time. "That just seems wrong and an invasion of privacy," he says.

TigerText is free to try and costs USD 2.5 after that. By the way, the app was actually named before the Tiger Woods scandal, and and the company decided to stick with it.
