Carrefour opens supermarkets in Serbia
- French Carrefour, the largest market chain in Europe and the second largest in the world, and Greek company Marinopoulos plan to soon open numerous hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Balkans - people from that company confirmed for newspaper 24 Sata.
- Thanks to long-time successful cooperation, Carrefour and Marinopoulos have decided to form a joint venture with the aim of opening Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Balkans. We plan to expand to Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Slovenia - people from Carrefour told 24 Sata.
When asked when and in what cities in Serbia they plan to offer their services, people from Carrefour were unable to give a specific answer, but what is for sure is that 60% of the company would be owned by the Frenchmen, while the rest would be in the possession of Carrefour-Marinopoulos, the joint venture formed 17 years ago.
- By opening a new branch, we would take a step forward in the Balkans' market, which is quite promising - said the people from the company whose headquarters is in Paris.
The announcement of the French company's arrival did not upset people in Serbia's biggest market chain Delta Maxi.
- We do not fear competition. It is always welcome because it makes us be even better. We are a modern European market chain with the network stretching outside the borders of our country. With the standards that we set in Serbia, we can open a store in any city in Europe. At any moment, consumers can trust us, the quality of our service, assortment of products.
