E-cookbook “No Waste Kitchen” Published
The recipes and advice in the cookbook are the result of the contest in which Facebook and Instagram users, bloggers, environmental activists, schools and kindergartens took part. The authors emphasize that the contest was organized during the Easter and May 1 holidays, when large amounts of food are cooked traditionally, but also due to the circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which caused many to cook at home much more than before.
The waste produced at households due to unused food is a serious problem which the entire planet is facing. A third of the food produced in the world is not eaten, but thrown away in selection processes after the production, in store chains or during the purchase. The amount of discarded, but still usable food is enough to feed all 827 million hungry people in the world, the organizers of the contest remind.
Francine Pickup, UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia, reminds that each of us can contribute to solving this problem.
– Tons of edible food which end up at landfills every day cost us money, and they cost the Earth its resources. There is no doubt that each of us can contribute to the climate action through simple activities carried out at our homes. By changing our behavior and habits, we can treat food as a valuable resource – Pickup wrote in the introduction to the cookbook.
