Reconstruction of Amphitheater and Alphabet Monument in Sombor Worth EUR 8.5 Million Soon

The mayor of Sombor, Dusanka Golubovic, the acting director of the Department of Property of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Maja Stojiljkovic, and the dean of the Faculty of Education in Sombor, Zeljko Vuckovic, have signed an agreement on the financing of the reconstruction and repair works on the amphitheater (summer stage) and the Avram Mrazovic Alphabet Monument.

The initiative for the reconstruction of these cultural items in front of the Faculty of Education came from the local self-government, and the agreement now creates the conditions for the reconstruction to begin, it is said on the website of the City of Sombor.

– In line with the City of Sombor's desire to develop this area, preserve the cultural heritage and create a special multifunctional environment which would bring together numerous education institutions, the Provincial Government and the Faculty of Economy have given their approval, and the project documentation and financial funds have been secured for the reconstruction of this space to start – said the mayor of Sombor, Dusanka Golubovic.

The monument consists of a mosaic of the forty letter's of Mrazovic's alphabet and an amphitheater. This famous gathering place of many generations of educators in Sombor is the work of architect Bogdan Bogdanovic, whereas the mosaic is the work of Aleksandar Tomasevic. It is, unfortunately, dilapidated at the moment.

As RTV reports, around EUR 8.5 million will be invested in the reconstruction of the amphitheater and the monument.
