Restaurants, Fountains, Acoustic Playgrounds and Plazas in Belgrade Center – What Linear Park from Beton Hala to Pancevo Bridge Will Feature

The study for the preparation of the Detailed Regulation Plan for the Linear Park has been put up for an early public review, and as the head urban planner of Belgrade, Marko Stojcic, announced earlier for eKapija, the PDR and project for the next phase is expected to be prepared by the end of the summer, that is, the plan to build certain sections should start. According to him, the construction of the entire Linear Park could be completed in three years.

The Linear Park will be built on an area of 47.6 ha, from the pier (Beton Hala) to the Pancevo Bridge and cover the stretch between the Sports Center Gale Muskatirovic, the Sava River regulation all the way to Beton Hala, the regulation of Vojvode Bojovica Blvd and Dunavska Street, the regulation of the existing railway to the Pancevo bridge, including the complexes of the Danube Heating Plant and the Dorcol Marina, with traffic and infrastructure connections, to the existing and the planned networks.

This area, as said, is dominated by a cargo rail belt, one of whose tracks is operational.

There are also water areas, areas for facilities and complexes of public services, green areas and a system of traffic routes (an underpass, an overpass, a footbridge and a cycling lane), a railway, areas for sports facilities and complexes, residential and commercial features, as well as undeveloped land.

The area within the Dorcol Marina covered by the plan should feature mixed city center surfaces.

– The main principle of the use and development of the former railway is to form a public city area which would connect other public spaces with its linear form, which makes it special compared to the remaining city features and emphasizes the public use of space, while offering a range of public features within the planned green areas. It also suggest the development and connection of public urban spaces as one of the more important factors in establishing an urban identity of Belgrade and a direct contact between people and their environment – the study says.

The linear park will feature pedestrian and cycling lanes, as well as plazas, stairs and platforms. Open sports and recreation courts in the Linear Park area can be: children's playgrounds, acoustic playgrounds, playgrounds for experimentation, open courts for active and passive recreation, trim tracks, a skate park, and, in addition to sports features, a multifunctional plaza (for exhibits, festivals, skating in the winter etc.), an amphitheater (for dancing and theater events and film screenings).

The planned Linear Park also envisages the installation of smaller pre-fabricated facilities or complexes, such as: a tourist information booth (of up to 4 m2), educational features (eco-educational center, applied physics center, zone design, youth center), cultural features (art pavilion for contemporary, applied, digital and alternative art, indoor and outdoor galleries, music pavilions and lookouts), commercial features (cafes, restaurants, art market, gift shops, creative workshops, children's playrooms).

The plan also includes the construction of public toilets, connected to the city's infrastructure and visually masked by the vegetation.

An important part of the landscaping in the Linear Park will be elements such as bleachers, walls, fences, gates, water areas and elements, monuments, sculptures, pergolas, canopies, rigoles, canals...

Possible additional landscaping features are: an adventure park, a cultural-historical heritage path, a green creative corridor, a corner for socializing and games (chess, bowls).

All the park's features should be publicly available to the visitors.

The park can occasionally be used for public, cultural events, exhibits, children's fairs and similar purposes, in line with the regulations.

The early public review is in progress at the Belgrade City Administration between May 13 and 27, and the developer of the plan is the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade.

Let us remind that the preliminary designs for the Linear Park are being prepared by 10 architectural teams from Serbia. As Stojcic said for our portal earlier, each team is in charge of a certain section and has 90 days to prepare the design.
