Serbia to Start Producing Coronavirus Tests – NeoMedica Nis to Launch Production of 1,500 Tests a Day in Two to Three Weeks
According to Cadez, this is important as the domestic producer will be able to cover a part of the needs of Serbian healthcare for the expensive tests, which are now imported, and it will also be able to export them later on. At the same time, NeoMedica, he adds, is another proof of the innovation, flexibility and capability of Serbian companies to respond to the biggest challenges the world is facing during the Covid-19 pandemic.
– We have already installed a new production line for immunity-chemical tests for viruses, including Covid-19, and the competent inspection service of the Ministry of Health has visited the factory and made sure that the legal, spatial, staff and equipment conditions are met. With the great support provided by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia from the beginning, we expect, when we obtain the working permit, to start producing 1,500 tests a day in the next two to three weeks – says Sasa Trickovic, the owner and director of NeoMedica and the president of the Group of Producers of Medical Devices of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia.
Cadez pointed out that companies such as NeoMedica could count on the Chamber's help in representing their needs and initiatives in communication with state institutions, solving the problems they're facing, supporting the realization of research-development and investment plans and introducing new products in the upcoming period as well.
He announced that, at the initiative of Nectar, the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia will forward to the Nis company the five million dinars paid by Nectar to the humanitarian account of the CCIS for donations to the economy.
NeoMedica already produces reagents and devices in the fields of hematology, biochemistry and urine analysis, used by labs and hospitals, not just in the country, but worldwide. In two decades, it has grown from a small family company into one of the leading domestic producers of in vitro diagnostic medical products and one of the largest exporters in its field, a company which invests in expanding its operations, its expert teams, implementation of world standards and development of new products.
– We have recognized an opportunity for penetrating the immunology market and a fully automated monotest has been developed, an immunity-chemical analyzer Naissa, using the model “one cartridge-one test-one patient” – Trickovic explains.
According to him, this concept is unique on a global level and it provides health workers with a reliable and efficient diagnostic system. As he notes, in 2018, this was recognized by the Innovation Fund, which supported the development of tests for detection and quantification of viruses, infectious diseases, hormones and tumor markers with a big grant.
Once the epidemic ends, the tests from the Nis factory will be usable for testing large population samples in order to determine whether the conditions for vaccination are met.
