Yugoslav Film Archive makes part of its collection available online
As said on the archive's website, the films showing the turbulent and glorious days of the First World War are available for free at the European Film Gateway web platform, as well as on the official Vimeo profile of the Yugoslav Film Archive.
The first set of 60 clips features movies with the topics of history, ethnology and culture. The focus is on presenting the history of Serbia and Yugoslavia, the way people lived, the way the towns looked, as well as prominent historical names and events.
For the time being, these are documentary materials from the period up to 1945 that the Yugoslav Film Archive has the rights to.
– The page will be updated, and the content will be expanded with new clips from the archive's rich collection each month. Often, the current events will serve as inspiration for which movies are to be put on the official YouTube page – it is said on the website.
The uploaded documentary collection includes Solunski proces (1917), Ulazak srpske vojske u Skopje (1918) and Proslava proboja Solunskog fronta (1928). It also features after-the-fact documentaries Cerska bitka and Kolubarska bitka, directed by Svetozar Pavlovic, Mars smrti by Miomir Stamenkovic and others, but also feature films about WWI, such as S verom u Boga by Mihajlo Popovic and the famous Mars na Drinu by Zika Mitrovic.
The clips are five minutes long, and each is accompanied by a short text or identifier in Serbian and English.
